About Music TherapyIf you are looking for therapy that is creative, flexible, and strength-based, I hope you will consider if music therapy would be a good fit for you and your family. We all use music to help us relax, sleep, get over a breakup, etc., but sometimes you want to take it to the next level!
I am a masters level board-certified music therapist (MMT, MT-BC) working in the Triangle area. I use music as a therapeutic medium to help clients reach cognitive, social, emotional, physical/motor, or communication goals. This can mean: -- Using improvised music to help a child with autism spectrum disorder increase functional communication -- Helping a teenager in foster care to write a song expressing experiences with their birth family -- Creating a specialized playlist to help a patient with their stroke rehab exercises -- And many, many other things! I have experience with children, adolescents, and young adults with disabilities and mild to severe medical conditions in school, home, and hospital settings. I've worked with other populations (psychiatric, older adults) as well. My approach is very client-driven and often involves music improvised on the spot. If this is something you may be interested in, please contact me and we can discuss whether music therapy would be a good fit for you! |
